NETFLIX INTERACTIVE
Shane was brought in by Netflix to help explore and define the future of interactive storytelling on the platform. Building on his prior work in live-action interactive content, he collaborated with internal teams to develop concepts, frameworks, and approaches for how interactivity could function within Netflix’s ecosystem.
Working across multiple initiatives including the interactive version of Buddy Thunderstruck. Shane helped shape how branching narratives and audience choice could be translated into a seamless viewing experience. His role focused on both concept development and practical execution, using real projects as a testing ground for new storytelling models.
Beyond traditional “choose your own adventure” mechanics, Shane explored ways to make interactivity feel more native to storytelling rather than disruptive to it. This included concepts like integrating time manipulation into the narrative where rewinding and replaying choices became part of the story itself, rather than just a user action.
He also developed ideas around character discovery and collection, where different choices would unlock hidden characters and narrative paths, encouraging deeper exploration of the story world. Additional concepts included tracking and reflecting user decisions allowing viewers to see, revisit, and even “score” their choices turning the experience into something more personal, replayable, and self-reflective.
